Marijuana affects your brain’s ability to function at higher levels, study says

If you don’t, that’s not surprising. As more and more states move to legalize marijuana, the stereotypical mind-numbing effects of weed have become passé, often replaced by an acceptance of the drug as an acceptable way to socialize, relax and get better sleep.

But while society may have forgotten the impact that weed can have on the brain, science has not.

“Our study enabled us to highlight several areas of cognition impaired by cannabis use, including problems concentrating and difficulties remembering and learning, which may have considerable impact on users’ daily lives,” said coauthor Dr. Alexandre Dumais, associate clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Montreal.

“Cannabis use in youth may consequently lead to reduced educational attainment, and, in adults, to poor work performance and dangerous driving. These consequences may be worse in regular and heavy users,” Dumais said.

Mississippi medical marijuana bill to be reviewed by Senate committee

After months of speculation and hand-wringing, the Mississippi Legislature is set to take up a medical marijuana bill in the Senate as soon as Thursday, lawmakers said.

Sen. Kevin Blackwell, R-Southaven, filed the long-awaited bill late Tuesday afternoon. Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann referred the 445-page bill to the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee for review.

Wednesday afternoon, the bill was passed by the Senate public health committee. Should it pass the Senate, it would head to the House and then to the governor.

A billion joints?:Lawmakers say Tate Reeves is moving the medical marijuana goal posts

Speaker of the House Philip Gunn said at the start of the legislative session medical marijuana was not a top priority of his.

Bryan’s committee held two hearings over the summer about what a proposed medical marijuana bill would look like in Mississippi.

Cannabis concerns at Hamden market; Lawmakers want a crackdown

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — There are growing cannabis concerns in one Connecticut town.

Hamden is the site for what is labeled as a “High Bazaar” event. The question some are asking is are the events legal?

Lawmakers News 8’s Jodi Latina spoke with said constituents are concerned about these “High Bazaar” events because they believe marijuana products could get into the hands of minors.

At an address on Crestway in Hamden, organizers are holding what some are calling “pot conventions” inside that blue warehouse.

On the High Bazaar Instagram account, if you scroll through the page, they advertise events and post videos showing a packed flea market of people sampling what is believed to be marijuana products. Signs say attendees have to be age 21 and over.

“It’s essentially allowing people to come in. They’re paying an entry fee which is supposedly a gift and then they’re able to acquire

Grover Beach considers allowing cannabis lounges in city

Grover Beach could soon become the first local city with what essentially equates to cannabis bars if a new ordinance is passed later this year.

The City Council directed staff on Monday to pursue an ordinance that would allow cannabis lounges at commercial cannabis retailers in the city.

Currently Grover Beach has four approved cannabis retailers: 805 Beach Breaks, Natural Healing Center, Urbn Leaf and Jushi, which is still under construction.

“The City of Grover Beach currently has three cannabis retailers operating in a safe and responsible way with a fourth under construction,” Grover Beach Mayor Jeff Lee said in a news release Wednesday. “Allowing our retailers to expand their business operations will continue to help strengthen our local economy, further transform our commercial spaces, and create new jobs and tax revenue for the Grover Beach community.”

What is a cannabis lounge?

Since California voters legalized recreational cannabis in 2016,

A look at the Senate medical marijuana bill

After years of debate and hang-fire, a Mississippi medical marijuana program for people with chronic and debilitating illnesses inched forward Wednesday, with a Senate committee passing a bill along to the full chamber.

A vote by the full Senate chamber is expected Thursday. Passage there would send it to the House, where some political observers say its passage is less assured. Last week, House Speaker Philip Gunn said “candidly, that is not a top issue for us.” Gov. Tate Reeves has been critical of an earlier version of the bill as allowing patients too much marijuana and refused to call a special legislative session for it this summer and fall. In a late change, the amount was reduced slightly, but it is unclear if that would prevent a Reeves veto.

“The more we tinker with this, the longer we debate it, the longer the delay for the people who voted

5 cannabis trends to watch for in L.A. in 2022

What does L.A.’s cannabis landscape look like in 2022? What trends and factors will shape the look and feel of the local weed scene?

While there are about as many opinions as there are places to legally buy a bag of bud in L.A. County, a recent survey of five industry insiders found five themes coming up over and over again when I asked them to forecast what would radically alter (or, in the case of federal prohibition, not alter) the way cannabis and consumers interact.

For the record:

1:12 p.m. Jan. 13, 2022In an earlier version of this article, a quote from Weedmaps’ Chief Executive Chris Beals about cannabis retail expansion into independent L.A. County cities was misattributed to The Parent Company’s Chief Executive Troy Datcher.

Consolidation is coming

Expect the flurry of mergers and acquisitions that defined the cannabis space last year to continue — if not

Breaking Louisiana’s medical marijuana monopolies could lower prices

When Louisiana’s first legal smokable medical marijuana was made available on Jan. 1, patients like Corbet King of Wisner were excited about the product that they believed would be a more affordable option than tinctures, oils and edibles.

After all, affordability was one of the key selling points when the Legislature passed a bill last year to add the plant’s unprocessed flower to the products that Louisiana’s two legal growers and nine regional pharmacies could offer to patients.

But when King and other patients arrived at their pharmacies they were surprised to find the flower product in some cases was just as costly or even more expensive, depending on the pharmacy.

“They lied to us,” said King, who showed USA Today Network a price chart in which Delta MedMar pharmacy in Monroe was charging between $440 and $480 per ounce. “Most people can’t afford this.”

How to Prevent Weed-Induced Anxiety, According to a Cannabis Expert

  • Lo Friesen, a cannabis chemist and founder of cannabis extract company Heylo, told Insider her tips for weed users who are prone to anxiety.
  • She said cannabis users who want to avoid feelings of anxiety should look for strains that smell pleasant to them, a sign it will interact well with their bodies.
  • Weed users should also look for strains low in THC and ones that contain the cannabinoid CBG.

As more states legalize weed, an increasing number of people are using the substance to decrease feelings of stress and anxiety. But some say cannabis use has exacerbated their anxiousness.

Cannabis users who’ve experienced anxiety-provoking effects might not have to swear off weed completely, though.

Instead, they should consider changing their dose and the strains they use, Lo Friesen, the founder and CEO of cannabis extracts company Heylo, told Insider.

“I always encourage people
